Akshay Kumar Opens Up on Playing a Pure Evil Role in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan: “He Is Not Grey, He Is Completely Evil”

The official teaser for director Priyadarshan’s highly anticipated psychological thriller Haiwaan was released today, offering audiences a glimpse into Akshay Kumar's dark and menacing screen avatar. Marking a sharp departure from his usual heroic portrayals, Kumar steps into a unabashedly negative character for the first time in his career, complete with an intense persona and a distinctive beanie-clad look that has generated widespread interest.

Discussing his role following the teaser launch, Kumar shared that portraying an unhinged psychopath on screen was a long-standing creative aspiration. Emphasizing the absolute darkness of the character, the actor clarified that his role offers no moral ambiguity or sympathetic backing. He described the film as a unique challenge that allows him to break away from his recent work across comedy, horror, action, and traditional drama.

Director Priyadarshan revealed how the casting for this antagonist role unexpectedly came together while working with Kumar on another project, Bhooth Bangla. Priyadarshan noticed Kumar wearing a simple beanie on set, which sparked the visual inspiration for the character. While narrating the script of Haiwaan, the director had not initially considered Kumar for the central negative part, but was surprised and thrilled when the actor personally offered to step into the dark role to challenge his artistic range.

The upcoming psychological drama brings together Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan in a tense, mysterious narrative world, marking a major collaboration between two cinema heavyweights. Directed by Priyadarshan, Haiwaan is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on September 11.
