First Poster Unveiled for ‘Like Maa’ Starring Sonali Kulkarni; Written and Directed by Neeru Sharma

Acclaimed actress Sonali Kulkarni is set to lead filmmaker Neeru Sharma’s upcoming 23-minute short film titled Like Maa. Marking the beginning of its promotional campaign, the makers have officially unveiled the project's first poster, offering audiences an initial glimpse into an intimate intergenerational drama focused on motherhood, family dynamics, and the psychological impact of experiences passed down through generations.

Sonali Kulkarni’s casting serves as a central pillar for the independent project. According to the production team, the veteran actress agreed to join the film after connecting with the sensitivity of the script and the nuanced layers of her character. The narrative centers on Anjana, a homemaker living in an upper-middle-class neighborhood, whose evolving relationship with her teenage daughter forms the primary emotional spine of the story.

Reflecting on her involvement, Sonali Kulkarni shared that the honesty and quiet sensitivity of Neeru Sharma's writing drew her to the role. She noted that the narrative offered her an opportunity to explore deeply human, relatable emotions within a carefully crafted world, making it a story she felt compelled to bring to life.

Written, produced, and directed by Neeru Sharma under the banner of Niruvana Kreations, Like Maa avoids conventional dramatic tropes in favor of subtle emotional observation. The film examines the understated ways in which personal expectations, family history, and social conditioning quietly dictate interpersonal relationships. Rajiv Parashar serves as co-producer on the project.

The short film features a broad supporting ensemble, including Mehdi Khan, Mehaan Soni, Smita Inamdaar, Aishwarya Manohar, Hisha Joshi, Nandini Sharma, Komal Khimsaria, and Aayaz Khan. Technical credits for the project include Director of Photography Aakash Sethi, editor Sandeep Kurup, music composer Kaushal Mahavir, and production designer Rucha Deogharkar.
