Jitin Gulati Joins Akshaye Khanna in Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe’s Mythological Spectacle ‘Mahakali’

Expanding its mythological canvas, the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU) has officially brought actor Jitin Gulati on board for its upcoming action-drama Mahakali. Directed by Puja Aparna Kolluru and created by Prasanth Varma, the feature follows the massive global success of Hanu-Man, positioning itself as the next major chapter in the studio's expanding Indian mythology franchise.

Gulati’s inclusion follows the high-profile unveil of veteran actor Akshaye Khanna as the formidable demon guru Shukracharya. Describing the opportunity as a personal manifestation, Gulati revealed that his interest in joining the PVCU intensified after watching Hanu-Man, prompting him to actively seek out a collaboration with creative head Prasanth Varma and director Puja Kolluru.

The casting process came together through key industry referrals while Gulati was working on another Telugu feature. After team members presented his performance showreel to the direction department, formal meetings were arranged, leading to his casting in a core character arc designed to drive the central narrative.

Reflecting on the role, Gulati highlighted director Puja Kolluru’s distinct creative vision for his character, emphasizing the high physical and emotional demands required by the script. He noted that the production’s cross-departmental support helped shape a performance that aims to set new benchmarks within the Indian mythological fantasy genre.

Produced by RKD Studios, Mahakali features a wide-ranging ensemble cast anchored by lead actress Bhoomi Shetty, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Rohit Saraf, Sriya Reddy, Rakesh Bedi, and Samuthirakani. Having commenced principal photography last year and wrapped major schedules in locations like Kolkata, the production team is now completing final post-production stages ahead of its global theatrical release on January 8, 2027.
