MCD Assures Full Support to Delhi Ramleela Committees: Single-Window System and Early Ground Handover Confirmed for 2026 Festive Season

The annual staging of Ramleela across the national capital represents one of the most culturally significant and logistically massive public events in Northern India. To ensure the smooth execution of the upcoming festive cycle, a high-profile delegation from Shri Ramleela Mahasangh, the apex body representing various Ramleela committees across Delhi, held a crucial administrative meeting with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi Commissioner, Sanjeev Khirwar. Led by the Mahasangh’s President, Arjun Kumar, the delegation formally submitted a comprehensive memorandum highlighting pressing civic issues and requesting early, proactive interventions from the municipal corporation to avoid last-minute bureaucratic hurdles.

During the detailed consultation, President Arjun Kumar emphasized the necessity of granting Ramleela organizers access to municipal grounds at least forty days prior to the commencement of the performances. This early handover is essential for the timely erection of massive stages, structural safety checks, and seating arrangements for thousands of daily spectators. Furthermore, the Mahasangh requested dedicated advertising windows from August 25 to October 25, seeking streamlined permissions to display promotional banners, posters, and hoardings across strategic public locations to effectively guide the citizens toward various venue sites.

Addressing the critical operational challenges faced by individual organizers at the local level, the delegation strongly advocated for the re-implementation of the single-window clearance system across all regional zonal offices of the MCD. This unified system, which proved highly successful in previous years, effectively eliminates the exhausting process of seeking independent clearances from multiple municipal departments. By consolidating health, advertising, and ground licensing under one administrative umbrella, the corporation can significantly reduce the processing time, allowing cultural committees to focus entirely on production values and crowd management protocols.

In addition to administrative permissions, the memorandum placed immense focus on public health and sanitation frameworks at the designated event sites. Given the seasonal vulnerability of Delhi to vector-borne diseases during the post-monsoon months, the Mahasangh urged the MCD to execute rigorous, scheduled sprayings of DDT powder and anti-malaria or anti-dengue larvicides around all ground premises. The organizers also requested the deployment of mobile public toilets, continuous waste management support, and the installation of high-intensity street lights along the peripheral approach roads to guarantee the safety of women, children, and elderly devotees visiting late at night.

Providing the official timeline for the grand socio-religious festival, the General Secretary of Shri Ramleela Mahasangh, Subhash Goyal, announced that the main Ramleela stage performances will systematically commence on October 11 and conclude on October 21. The landmark Vijayadashami or Dussehra festival, featuring the ceremonial burning of massive effigies, is scheduled to be celebrated with traditional grandeur across the city on October 20, 2026. This tight ten-day window necessitates flawless coordination between public organizers and municipal workers to handle the immense footfall expected throughout the festive week.

After listening to the various points raised by the cultural representatives, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar assured the delegation of the MCD's absolute cooperation and logistical backing. He affirmed that the corporation recognizes the immense socio-cultural importance of the celebration and will take immediate steps to ensure that all civic facilities are deployed well ahead of time, matching the efficiency of previous successful years.
