D23 2026: Marvel Studios Unveils New X-Men Cast Led by Sadie Sink and Debuts Avengers: Doomsday Trailer

At Disney’s D23 2026 fan event in Anaheim, Marvel Studios officially announced the ensemble cast for its highly anticipated X-Men reboot, ending months of industry speculation. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage alongside director Jake Schreier to introduce the new generation of actors stepping into the iconic mutant roles for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming film is scheduled for a global theatrical release on May 5, 2028.  

Heading the new mutant ensemble is Sadie Sink, who reprises her role as telepathic hero Jean Grey following her Marvel debut in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Joining her on the core roster are Kit Connor as Scott Summers (Cyclops), Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. In a video message from Pinewood Studios, actor Adam Driver revealed he will portray the villainous geneticist Nathaniel Milbury, better known as Mister Sinister.  

Alongside the mutant announcements, Marvel Studios showcased an exclusive new trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring stage appearances by Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell. The moody footage places Downey Jr.’s Victor von Doom at the forefront, opening with a narration by Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm warning various heroes about Doom's origin before showcasing his growing threat across the multiverse. Avengers: Doomsday is slated to hit theaters on December 18, 2026.  

The presentation highlighted a distinct narrative approach for Marvel's upcoming slate, establishing a clear line between the new generation of X-Men and classic characters. While the 2028 X-Men feature will focus on the newly announced ensemble, legacy actors from the original 2000s X-Men films—including Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen—are set to make their appearances within the multiversal storyline of Avengers: Doomsday.  

Marvel Studios indicated that additional casting announcements for major X-Men characters, including Wolverine, Beast, and Magneto, will be revealed in future updates. Furthermore, industry reports confirm that Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey will also feature prominently in Avengers: Secret Wars, establishing her as a key figure in the MCU's ongoing multiverse arc.
