Director Aditya Datt Casts Aparshakti Khurana as the Central Antagonist in ‘Gunmaaster G9’

In an effort to break away from traditional casting tropes in commercial Hindi cinema, director Aditya Datt has selected actor Aparshakti Khurana to play the central antagonist in the upcoming action feature Gunmaaster G9. Currently in an active production phase, the project showcases Khurana in a completely uncharted space, marking his transition into an out-and-out menacing villainous arc.

Detailing the creative reasoning behind the choice, Datt explained that commercial action films frequently rely on familiar villain cliches that the production team sought to subvert. Rather than opting for a conventional action-genre antagonist, the director actively pursued a performer capable of introducing fresh psychological nuance and unpredictable energy to the screen.

Datt cited Khurana’s standout performance in the acclaimed series Jubilee as a major turning point that solidified his decision. Impressed by his emotional range and screen presence across diverse narratives, the director placed Khurana at the very top of his casting wish-list, reaching out directly to pitch the high-stakes antagonist role.

Beyond its core performances, Gunmaaster G9 is designed as a character-driven action drama where set pieces are grounded in clear emotional motivations. Datt, who personally conceptualized the action sequences during the scriptwriting phase, describes the project as a blend of sleek visual aesthetics, intense drama, and musical elements, ensuring the narrative remains centered on compelling storytelling rather than pure spectacle.

The film also marks a significant creative reunion, bringing together actor Emraan Hashmi, composer Himesh Reshammiya, and director Aditya Datt, alongside co-star Genelia Deshmukh. While final distribution timelines remain under review, the production team is currently targeting a major theatrical release around Dussehra 2026.
