Kay Kay Menon and Kirti Kulhari Lead High-Stakes Emergency Thriller ‘Dial 1975’ on Waves OTT

Set against the turbulent political backdrop of the 1975 Emergency, upcoming human thriller Dial 1975 explores the fundamental human necessity of free communication during times of strict state surveillance. Produced by Spherecho Productions, the film centers on a high-stakes race surrounding an extraordinary technological breakthrough—India’s first wireless phone prototype. At a moment in Indian history when civil liberties and public messaging were heavily restricted, this singular device becomes a symbol of hope, survival, and fierce conflict.  

The narrative follows an array of interconnected characters as conflicting political and personal factions scramble to control the coveted communications prototype. Driven by paranoia, shifting loyalties, and sheer survival instinct, the plot highlights the extreme measures individuals take when deprived of the basic right to express themselves freely. By anchoring historical political turmoil to personal stakes, the film delivers a fast-paced race against time.  

A formidable ensemble cast brings the intense storyline to life, led by Kay Kay Menon, Kirti Kulhari, Pravessh Rana, Vishwanath Chatterjee, and Shubham Vardhan. Each actor portrays a key player with a personal investment in acquiring the prototype, adding layers of tension and emotional complexity to the unfolding drama.  

Co-directed by Navneet Behal and Vibhu Kashyap, Dial 1975 is produced by Ranaksh Rana, Niranjan Das, and Kabir Lovee, with Shamsi Abbas Razvi as co-producer and Megha Rana serving as creative director. The period aesthetic and suspenseful mood are shaped by Daniel Sanchez Lopez’s cinematography, Moses Christopher’s background score, and Som Chavan’s editing.  

Addressing the core concept of the project, producer Ranaksh Rana noted that while the Emergency provides a dramatic backdrop, the main narrative engine is the historical introduction and secretive pursuit of the wireless phone. Co-director Vibhu Kashyap emphasized that the human emotional drama remains front and center, depicting how everyday individuals navigated personal dilemmas amidst nationwide political unrest.  

Dial 1975 is scheduled for its official digital premiere on August 21, 2026, streaming exclusively on Prasar Bharati’s flagship state-owned digital platform, Waves OTT.
