Rupali Ganguly Calls Anupama and Devika’s Bond the Epitome of Friendship

Rupali Ganguly has always been the voice of emotions when it comes to her landmark show Anupama. While the series has beautifully highlighted family values, struggles, and relationships, she feels one of the most striking aspects has been the way friendship is given its own platform. For her, the bond between Anupama and Devika, played by Jaswir Kaur, isn’t just another track—it’s a relationship that reflects the honesty and warmth of real-life friendships.

The actress recently spoke about how this equation was brought alive in the show. Giving credit to the makers Deepa and Rajan Shahi, she explained how a particular sequence between Anupama and Devika was written and executed with such sensitivity that it warmed her heart. “We were mere actors, puppets in the hands of our makers. Some scenes touch you deeply, and this was one of them. Friendship, after all, is one of the purest, most honest emotions,” she shared.

Drawing parallels to the age-old tale of Krishna and Sudama, Rupali described Devika as that unwavering support in Anupama’s life. “Devika has always been there whenever Anupama needed her. She is not a character for the sake of it—she actually propels the story forward,” Rupali said. With Devika’s return in the current storyline, the bond has become a reunion of sorts for both the characters and the actors. For Rupali, stepping into these scenes felt as natural as living through a real bond.

She also pointed out how television rarely explores such friendships. Cinema has celebrated companionship in films like Dil Chahta Hai, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, or even Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. But in daily soaps, stories often circle around family and romance, leaving friendship underexplored. “That’s why Anupama and Devika’s bond stands out. It’s been consistently relevant for five years, making it unique in the television space,” she reflected.

Rupali’s personal life mirrors her thoughts on friendship. She believes it’s the foundation of all relationships. Before marriage, her husband was her best friend, and her brother continues to hold that place in her life even today. She cherishes her small circle of close friends, including Mona, Delnaaz, and her sister Rita, along with a few bonds she has formed over the years. For her, friendship is the anchor that keeps relationships strong.

She went further to highlight how, at its core, every bond eventually turns into friendship. The relationship of Bapuji with Anupama, Samar with Anupama, or even Ba’s tender care—it all transforms into a softer, friend-like affection over time. Even the dynamics of marriage or parenting evolve, where husband-wife or parents-children become friends. For her, that is the truest form of love, and Anupama manages to showcase that essence time and again.

For Rupali, the celebration of friendship on such a massive platform feels special. “I’m proud that the makers are unafraid to explore bonds that aren’t usually given space in television. It makes Anupama not just a story of a woman’s journey but a story of the relationships that hold us together,” she said with pride. And with Devika’s re-entry into the narrative, Rupali is hopeful that the bond will continue to evolve, bringing even more depth and beauty to Anupama’s journey.
