Authenticity Over VFX: Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora Shoot ‘Shri Ramayan Katha’ in Real Chitrakoot

In an era where mythological epics rely heavily on green screens and CGI, the creators of Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha – Shri Ram Ki are taking a grounded approach. The production team recently released a behind-the-scenes (BTS) video showcasing lead actors Dev Sharma and Anjali Arora filming amidst the natural landscapes and forests of Chitrakoot. Ditching artificial studio sets and heavy VFX, the makers opted for real-world locations to bring emotional depth and raw authenticity to the screen.  

Chitrakoot holds immense spiritual significance in the Ramayana epic as the sacred site where Lord Ram, Mata Sita, and Lakshman spent a major portion of their 14-year exile. It is also venerated as the meeting point where Bharat traveled to request Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya. Filming directly within these historical wilderness settings allowed the cast to absorb the spiritual aura of the location while portraying their sacred roles.  

Reflecting on his time on set, Dev Sharma, who plays Shri Ram, shared that standing in the dense forests of Chitrakoot made him reflect deeply on the sacrifices and resilience required during the exile. He noted that performing in genuine environments helped him grasp the nuances of the role beyond standard acting techniques. The real-world backdrop added a natural weight to his portrayal that artificial sets simply could not replicate.  

Anjali Arora, essaying the role of Mata Sita, echoed similar sentiments regarding the location shoot. She mentioned that walking through the serene, quiet forests provided a deeply spiritual experience, allowing her to internalize the emotional magnitude of Mata Sita’s journey. Standing under the natural canopy made the hardships and grace of the 14-year Vanvaas feel strikingly tangible.  

Directed by Abhishek Singh, Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha aims to prioritize emotional storytelling, reverence, and human connection over pure visual spectacle. The project also features Sheel Verma as Lakshman, Nirbhay Wadhwa as Hanuman, and Rajniesh Duggal as Ravan. The film is set to release nationwide in Hindi and Chhattisgarhi on September 25, 2026.
